Check out the deal Cabela’s is offering on their 8″ Nils High-Velocity Hand Auger. If you’re like me you’re always looking for ways to be lighter and more mobile on the ice. Cutting auger weight can be a good place to start. I have a 6″ Nils that I use for early/late ice. Its light weight and cuts effortlessly, but at times I wish I had an eight inch. Getting even a 20″-25″ northern through a six inch hole can be tricky sometimes.
It can’t hurt to carry this hand auger as a backup to your gas/electric auger as well (or with some handy work you could make your nils electric). At a savings of $36 (20%), this is the best deal we’ve found around the net. Get them fast because when these go on sale they typically sell out quickly.
